The LBS gives ESSER a Home

Despite having been built on a huge area of more than 45,000 m2, the service center of the LBS Baden-Württemberg (home savings and loan association of Baden-Württemberg) in Stuttgart, Germany, does not give the usual impression of a massive lump, as is the case with many office buildings. Idyllically framed by vineyards, divided into a multitude of various medium sized and smaller units and livened up by many bright inner courtyards, inviting terraces and attractively planted open spaces, the LBS melts harmoniously into the wonderful landscape. Ever newer views and pleasant surprises await the visitors around each corner and from every perspective. Work stations of about 700 employees are located here, and they use their expertise in theory and practice in order to get their customers into their own four walls.

A place for many events

The architecture and the exterior design already have great appeal, and this is even more true of the attractive premises and rooms and the manifold possibilities of their use. The LBS uses different areas for events. For example, there are the cafeteria and the dining area. The foyer is ideal for events of larger scale; here, among other things, large music forums as well as the award ceremonies for the “LBS Award for Architecture and Environment” are held twice a year. All in all the LBS service center buildings provide the setting for about 90 events per year.

Ready for anything

The varied arrangement of the vast area, the numerous buildings, angled and with lots of wonderfully “rough edges”, plus the many events with guests who do not know their way around—everything that makes the stay pleasant for both employees and visitors— poses an enormous challenge with regard to ensuring everyone’s safety. Presumably this was why the ESSER VARIODYN® D1 Compact voice alarm system was selected when the existing system did not meet the demanding requirements of the TÜV (Technical Control Board). This product series fulfills all the requirements of the 0833 VDE standard. SPIE Deutschland System Integration GmbH was responsible for conceiving, setting up and installing the installation.
The power core of the unit is formed by three power amplifiers with 2 x 300 W each as well as an additional backup amplifier with the same capacity. In total they feed 400 loudspeakers which are switched in 36 loudspeaker circuits and are divided into 20 accessible groups. In combination with two DOM4-24 digital output modules, it is possible to actuate certain parts of a building, individual floors, selected halls, rooms and event locations in a controlled and temporally staggered manner.
